French volunteers restore BK monument
A group of French volunteers is sprucing up a monument for the Green-Wood Cemetery.
They are working on the Angel of Music monument, which hasn't received such care since 2012. Green-Wood says the bronze sculpture marks the grave of the United States' first internationally recognized composer, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, who lived in the 18th Century.
The group is in New York on an exchange program sponsored by Preservation Volunteers.
Cemetery officials say they appreciate the help because it takes a lot of work to preserve the sculptures and vegetation around Green-Wood's grounds.
