Best of Brooklyn: Dave Cortes
Brooklyn resident Dave Cortes is bringing Captain American to Prospect Park next week.
The Brooklyn-based designer has created the 13-foot tall bronze statue of the Avenger.
Cortes, 42, worked on the statue for four months. He says it started as a smaller, 3-D printed version that was only one pound and made entirely out of plastic.
The plastic prototype was later shipped to Marvel, where it was enlarged to 13 times its original size to the 2,000-pound bronze statue that will be featured in the park.
The statue will be standing tall in Prospect Park for 10 days starting Aug. 10, before touring around Brooklyn for the year.
"I was excited about being able to have some sort of attachment to the borough I love," says Cortes.
