Coney Island, Brighton Beach have health advisories lifted
Health advisories were lifted Friday at Coney Island and Brighton Beach after elevated levels of bacteria were found in the water Thursday.
However, an advisory was issued for Gerritsen Beach.
The elevated levels of bacteria can be caused by many factors, including debris, medical waste and toxic contaminants.
For future information on advisories, beachgoers can use the city's Health Department "Know Before You Go" text messaging service. Beachgoers can text "beach" or "playa" 877877 to sign up for the service.
