Fatal Cypress Hills crash claims life of moped rider

A elderly man riding a moped was struck and killed by a car in Cypress Hills Sunday.

The crash occurred at the corner of Fulton Street and Vermont Street.

Surveillance footage of the incident shows the man riding the moped and heading east on Fulton Street when the driver of a Nissan Altima clipped him.

The driver of the moped, identified only as an 81-year-old Hispanic man, veered into oncoming traffic and was thrown from his scooter.

The victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was a 18-year-old man, according to officials.

Police say the driver will not be charged as a criminal, saying that the incident was only a tragic accident.
