Flatbush vigil honors dad killed while defending son
Members of the Flatbush community turned out Monday evening for a vigil honoring a father who was fatally shot while trying to defend his son.
Gerald Cummings was shot last week in front of P.S. 6 on Snyder Avenue. Investigators say the shooting occurred after Cummings confronted teenagers who stole his son's hat the day before.
East Flatbush youth group GMAAC organized Monday's vigil in front of the school to remember Cummings and raise awareness about gun violence.
Those in attendance also prayed for others affected by violence.
