Residential building damaged in Bed-Stuy fire on Lafayette Avenue

A residential building was badly damaged during a fire in Bed-Stuy Wednesday, officials say.

It happened around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard.

Officials say the fire started on the second floor inside a four-story residential building at 814 Lafayette Ave.

Residents described the sounds of popping, and the sight of fire and smoke that quickly spreading through the building.

Firefighters say at least three ladders were extended to the roof to bring the blaze under control.

No was hurt in the fire, but several families are now displaced.

Officials say they are investigating the cause of the fire.
