CHI health center offers care for those without insurance
Community Health Initiative is Coney Island's first and only federally qualified health center, offering services to everyone, whether they have insurance or not.
CHI health center has been providing medical care for nine years, but it just recently became federally qualified due to the lack of affordable health care in the neighborhood.
In 2014, the center was notified it could qualify for federal funding and after a long application process it was approved in 2015.
The center was awarded $2 million over the course of three years to help the community.
Podiatry, physical therapy, pediatrics and primary care are just a few of the services offered.
The center also recently launched "Walk with a Doc," where a physician walks with patients to encourage healthy living.
A back-to-school wellness event is also planned for later this month.
