Search for Queens jogger's killer expands into Brooklyn
The search for the suspect who killed a Queens jogger has expanded to Brooklyn.
Karina Vetrano, 30, of Howard Beach, went for a run near her home in the early evening hours on Aug. 2. She was later discovered in a grassy area of Spring Creek Park - a large wetland area that extends from Brooklyn into Queens.
The medical examiner says Vetrano was strangled and police believe she was sexually assaulted. No arrests have been made.
Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce says a pathway in the park could easily have been taken by the assailant into Brooklyn. He says efforts are being concentrated in the area of Fountain Avenue and Erskine Street.
Vetrano's family has aggressively raised more than $250,000 online in the hopes it will lead to an arrest.
Police are urging anyone who may have information about the case to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
