Borough president hopes to add security cameras in BK communities
Borough President Eric Adams is calling on the city to fund the expansion of Operation Safe Shopper.
The initiative began in July when Adams had security cameras installed in neighborhoods across Brooklyn to assist with the investigation of local crimes.
The cameras recently helped to find one of the suspects involved in an attempted robbery that occurred on Albany Avenue.
"You have repeated offenders who continue to commit their crimes until they are apprehended," Adams said. "When you catch them at the beginning of their crime spree, you prevent countless number of victims, countless number of property damages, countless number of police hours."
Adams says it would cost $1 million to cover the entire Crown Heights community with security cameras and also parts of Prospect Heights, Lefferts Gardens and Bedford-Stuyvesant.
