Community leaders and members of the clergy and law enforcement gathered Monday at the Canarsie Pier to bring the spirit of peace to the community through prayer.
The prayer session takes place every month in a different spot in Canarsie.
While overall crime has fallen in Canarsie, especially since the 1990s, there have already been three homicides this year, which is slightly up from last year.
Officials say they are continuing to work toward keeping the neighborhood safe, and that the prayer session is just one step to boost community morale.
The gathering was also a show of support for the NYPD's 69th Precinct, which had been the target of threats this year, although that part was downplayed by officials.
