The Afropunk Music Festival returned to Brooklyn this weekend, drawing crowds to Commodore Barry Park.
The festival featured music, fashion, food and art, and marked a celebration of alternative black culture.
The festival's lineup included Ice Cube and Janelle Monáe.
Festival-goers say the concert is more than a two-day event, it is a lifestyle that focuses on activism and making a difference.
"It's not just going to be people out here partying all day, but an environment that's about teaching and learning and having fun," says Brooklyn activist Peter Velez.
The festival started in Brooklyn, and now has outposts in Paris and London.
