Organizers prepare for West Indian American Day Parade

Organizers of the West Indian American Day Parade are preparing Friday in East Flatbush.
The Boom Mas Band says they're preparing Brazilian-themed outfits for the parade, including masks. Boom Mas band leader Javon Douglas says the band is led by young people and welcome newcomers, including those of Caribbean descent.
"A lot of the masqueraders, they're born here," he says. "They don't know what it is to go back to their homeland and play mas and stuff like that."
Douglas says the parade allows these masqueraders to reconnect with their heritage.
The parade begins on Sept. 5.
