NY senator urges wireless carriers to fix dead zones
New York Sen. Chuck Schumer is urging wireless carriers to fix dead cellphone zones throughout Brooklyn and the rest of the city.
Schumer says there are nearly 200 cellphone dead zones scattered across the boroughs, some he says many carriers have no idea even exist.
More than 40 neighborhoods around Brooklyn are listed as dead zones for service.
The senator says that wireless carriers need to do everything possible to ensure that New Yorkers have access to cellphone service at all times.
During a trip to Washington on Tuesday, he argued that poor wireless service, and often times, inaccurate coverage maps that hide dead zones, hurt consumers and businesses in several ways.
Schumer's office has released a full map of dead zones all across the city, and says it will help wireless carriers identify which areas need to be brought up to speed.
