Brooklyn National Guard members set to train for Afghanistan

Families bid an emotional farewell to their loved ones in the New York Army National Guard as they left for training in Texas. 



The 29 soldiers from the 107th Military Police Company were hand-picked to serve as part of a protective service detail in Kabul starting later this fall .



The mission in Afghanistan is expected to last about a year. 



The unit is setting off for Texas this weekend and is expected to return from Afghanistan in the early summer of 2017.
