Libraries across Brooklyn celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Sunset Park Library kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month early on Friday with a Latino puppet show, a piñata and a balloon show.

Carlos Menchaca, the first Mexican-American councilmember in New York City, lead the event.

"I'm here to show that we are diverse community and we love celebrating our culture," Menchaca said.

Ten Brooklyn libraries will be hosting Hispanic Heritage Month events throughout October.

The library said the goal of the event is to celebrate Hispanic culture in a family-friendly way so that all generations can know their heritage.
