Vigil remembers 1 year since deadly Borough Park blast
A vigil was held Monday to remember one of the women killed a year ago in an explosion in Borough Park.
A three-story building at 1406 13th Ave. was leveled in a fiery blast Oct. 3, 2015. The explosion killed Ligia Puello.
Puello, who was 63 years old at the time, suffered severe and fatal burns in the resulting fire. Another tenant, Francisca Figueroa, was also killed and a dozen others were injured.
Investigators ruled the cause of the explosion as arson, saying Figueroa poured gasoline on the stairwell and set it ablaze.
Kim Puello, the victim's daughter, was present at the somber vigil and says she remembers her mother as loving.
