2 NJ homes destroyed in blast after report of gas odor
An explosion in New Jersey Tuesday reduced two homes to rubble.
Emergency crews made their way through mounds of wood, brick and debris following the blast in Paterson.
Fire officials say about 15 firefighters and three police officers were sent to the hospital for minor injuries. They say most of the injuries were ear drum issues from the power of the explosion.
?The American Red Cross is assisting 37 people in nine families displaced by the explosion. Those residents are being provided temporary lodging, food and clothing.
Neighbors reported the smell of gas shortly before the blast, and nearby homes and businesses were evacuated as a precaution.
Officials say no residents were injured.
