Symbolic items of love placed along Brooklyn Bridge
The global tradition of placing padlocks on bridges to symbolize love continues to appear on the Brooklyn Bridge, despite the Department of Transportation's effort to remove them.
Dozens of so-called "love locks," symbolizing love and memories, continue to be placed by visitors across the span over the years. However, other gestures of love are starting to be spotted.
Being tied to the bridge now are things like headphones, ribbons and hair ties. The symbolic gesture became noticeable along the bridge in 2010, and its popularity continued to grow despite recent bids to stop it.
A Department of Transportation spokesperson says they are aware of the new items popping up along the bridge and they routinely remove them.
