Students and teachers in the Bronx joined in on a statewide fight Thursday to demand an increase in school funding that they say was promised nearly a decade ago.

School officials say that in 2006, a court ruled that the state owed public state schools around $4 billion as part of the Campaign for Fiscal Equality lawsuit. They say they haven't seen any of that money.

Students and teachers say the funds are needed now more than ever.

The march comes as a group of parents are on day five of their walk from Wall Street to Albany. They are also demanding that the state give public schools the $4 billion.

News 12 reached out to the state Education Department, but has not heard back yet.
