Students at a Sheepshead Bay high school are reflecting after a trip to Cuba.
Saint Edmund Prep students took a mission trip there last month and they say it was the trip of a lifetime.
Students say that the trip was a perfect example of young people getting together to gain a worldly perspective.
"It definitely helped me with my worldview perspective of how things are in the world. I guess it just made me very aware of the privileges and opportunities I have," says Anastasia McGrath.
The trip to Cuba was made possible through the hunger awareness challenge that students took part in for a year. They raised enough money to both take the trip and donate money to help build day care centers in Cuba.
During their trip, students say they worked with a convent and saw the building that was going to be turned into a day care with the money they had raised.
"We saw that our money was actually going to use and they had all the plans laid out. Everything was in order to start as soon as they got the money and it was cool to see how we were actually going to make a difference," says Kathryn Bylix.
