Residents who were sad to hear that a well-liked mural was going to be torn down as part of a new development project were happy to learn that the developer has had a change of heart.

The mural "A Love Letter to Brooklyn" has been a featured attraction in Downtown Brooklyn since 2011. In January, developer Tishman Speyer announced that the Hoyt Street parking garage, which is home to the mural, was being torn down and converted into a mixed-use property.

However, residents now have a glimmer of hope. Speyer says his firm is working with the artist, Steve Powers, to retain a portion of the mural that is featured on the sky bridges with the words 'Euphoria' and 'Turn to me.'

Some residents say they are happy a piece of Brooklyn is being preserved.

The entire parking garage will be torn down in April 2017. There is no word yet on where the mural pieces will be displayed.
