Historic BK theater reopens for first time since 1998
For the first time since 1998, Crown Heights' historic Black Lady Theatre opened its doors on Saturday.
The venue held an open house with a fashion show, live performances, vendors and several speakers to celebrate the theater finally being open again.
Inside the theater there is an amphitheater, a large stage and murals of several influential black figures.
The Black Lady Theatre has significance in Brooklyn's black empowerment movement of the 1980s.
The owners say they are excited to have all different types of events at the venue to celebrate black culture with art and entertainment.
Several renovations are still being completed at the theater in the next couple of weeks before it opens full time.
