NYPD kicks up security for NYC Marathon
The NYPD is increasing security ahead of this year's New York City Marathon, which takes place Nov. 6.
Chief of Department Carlos Gomez says thousands of uniformed police will patrol the roughly 26-mile route, along with an undisclosed number of plainclothes officers.
Police will be on alert for suspicious activity, and heavy weapons teams along the route will be mobile in case of an emergency.
Three years ago, three people were killed and more than 200 more were injured in bombing attacks during the Boston Marathon.
