Family seeks justice 1 year after Bushwick man's murder
A Bushwick man was killed during a home invasion robbery a year ago Saturday, and police and family members are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect.
According to police, authorities received a call about a man being shot through the front door of his apartment building just after 1 a.m. Police say it appears that an intruder was trying to get into the building when Hector Diaz came down to see what was happening. That's when a shot was fired through the glass door, striking him in the head. Diaz was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital and pronounced dead.
Police say the suspect fled the scene. No arrests have been made since.
Family members say Diaz was a loving father of two who would have turned 36 years old this year. After months of working with police, a reward of more than $2,000 has been posted.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
