Roosevelt Houses tenants bemoan water leaks

Water damage in the Roosevelt Houses has some residents there upset.

Plumbing issues have plagued tenants at 853 Dekalb Ave.

Kizzy Atkins and her family have lived there for more than 20 years, but for the past few, water leaks in the walls have caused mold and other damage.

Her mother, Denise Hamer, is in remission from cancer. Hamer says she thinks the mold is contributing to her health issues.

The family says it has repeatedly reached out to NYCHA to patch up the leaks, but they want a permanent fix.

NYCHA has not yet responded to a News 12 request for comment.
