Family of shooting victim wants answers from NYPD
A Brooklyn family is devastated and looking for answers from the NYPD after their son was shot and killed by police in the Van Dyke Housing Complex over the weekend.
On Wednesday, the family of 21-year-old Erickson Gomez Brito said their last goodbyes. The family of Gomez Brito says he was shy and quiet and was suffering from depression.
He was fatally shot after police say he attacked two officers at the housing complex in Brownsville on Saturday.
Police say they responded to a call of a suspicious man roaming the hallway of an apartment building. They say Gomez Brito managed to grab one of the officer's batons and struck both officers in the head before they shot him.
Both officers were released from Jamaica Hospital.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
Family members say they want an independent investigation done and will march on Sunday in front of the Van Dyke Houses to demand answers.
