Residents concerned over sidewalk conditions in Gravesend
Residents in Gravesend are concerned over the condition of sidewalks ever since the city did construction.
Residents, along with Assemblyman William Colton, say sidewalks on West 7th Street and other areas are dangerous for people with disabilities.
Albert Vicinanza uses a walker to get around and says it is now hard to get in and out of his home. He says a large part of his sidewalk was taken out, and a tree pit was put in its place. Vicinanza says now his sidwalk is mostly mud and is not level, making it very dangerous. He says he was told the construction was part of the city's tree and sidewalk program.
"The city is failing to make a reasonable accommodation against a person with disabilities, and that is a violation of the U.S. disabilities act," Assemblyman Colton says.
Residents like Vicinanza are calling on the city to fix the sidewalk conditions to make getting around safe for everyone.
