A Brooklyn author took getting to know the area to new heights by walking through all 44 neighborhoods.
William Helmreich is the author of "The Brooklyn Nobody Knows." In his book he details how he walked 816 miles through Brooklyn.
Helmreich teaches sociology at the City College of New York. He says his dad inspired him to know the streets of the city.
"I've been teaching a course for 40 years to graduate students and undergraduates about New York City and then I got the idea to write a book," says Helmreich.
Helmreich says people think they know their neighborhood, but would be surprised what they would find if they walked around.
