Police: Woman beaten to death in Brownsville home invasion
A 68-year-old woman was beaten to death and another man was injured in a home invasion in Brownsville, police say.
The woman's body was discovered inside a home on Kings Highway and East 95th Street around 3 a.m. Friday. Police say they responded to a call and found the woman -- identified as Brenda Ramos -- dead inside the home along with a 40-year-old man who was injured.
Police say they discovered a hammer inside the home and believe it may have been used as a weapon.
The woman appeared to have visible trauma on her body, and police say that she was unconscious and unresponsive when officers arrived. There was no blood found at the scene. EMS pronounced her dead at Brookdale Hospital.
The 40-year-old man was also taken to Brookdale Hospital. Authorities say his injuries were consistent with blows from a hammer. He is expected to be OK.
Police are searching for the suspects, who they say took off with the woman's belongings. They say it was two men and one woman.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
