Police ID victims of deadly Cross Bronx crash
Police have identified two of the three victims killed in a crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway.
Henry Walker, 51, of Livingston, New Jersey, and Khalil J. Walker, 21, of Pennsylvania, were killed in the chain-reaction crash Tuesday. The third victim is a 58-year-old man who police say has not yet been identified.
It happened on the northbound Cross Bronx Expressway near Jerome and Webster avenues around 5:45 a.m.
Two tractor-trailers and a Ford pickup truck collided in the middle lane after one had stopped, according to police. The accident sandwiched the pickup in between two tractor-trailers. The pickup was carrying the three victims and two others.
EMS pronounced the men dead at the scene.
The momentum of the big trucks carried one of them into a Toyota Corolla, which was pinned against the median.
The injured victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and one was released Tuesday, while the another was expected to be cleared to leave soon, according to officials. The remaining victims were listed in stable condition.
Police say all of the involved drivers tested negative for alcohol and have clean driving records. Investigators are looking into whether speed was a factor.
All lanes reopened after about six hours of closures.
