DMV offers tips for safe New Year’s celebrations
The New York State DMV offered several tips for partygoers to safely celebrate the new year.
The agency suggested that anyone who planned to hit the roads after midnight should line up a safe way home before the festivities begin, and designate a sober driver before any drinking begins.
The DMV also suggested using taxis or public transportation.
Anyone who spots a suspected drunken driver was also urged to call police.
New York is taking part in the national "Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign to crack down on drunken driving, so drivers were being told to expect sobriety checkpoints with an increased number of police patrols.
