Polar Bear Club takes plunge to ring in New Year

The annual Polar Bear Plunge into the Atlantic Ocean was held at Coney Island Sunday morning.

The brave swimmers say there is no better way to ring in the New Year.

Organizers say more than 2,000 participants showed up in bathing suits, others in Santa Claus, mermaid and polar bear costumes.

Since 2007, the Polar Bear Club has hosted the plunge to raise money for Camp Sunshine, which serves children with serious illnesses. Last year, the club raised more than $60,000.
