Brooklyn's Haitians celebrate Independence Day

Haitians across the borough are celebrating the country's Independence Day Sunday.



Haiti was released from French rule on New Year's Day in 1804.



News 12 Brooklyn was at La Caye on Lafayette Avenue, where traditional Haitian food was being served up.



"It's a connection back to our roots," said one customer. "Being able to have [soup joumou] ...just makes me feel that sense of community."
