Special-education teacher killed in Midwood car crash

A special-education teacher was killed in a car crash Tuesday in the Midwood section of Brooklyn.

Hermanda Booker, 29, was crossing the street at Kings Highway and Nostrand Avenue around 6:45 a.m. when she was struck by a silver Toyota Sienna and then a school bus turning onto Nostrand Avenue, police say.

Both vehicles stayed at the scene.

Booker died of her injuries at Beth Israel Hospital.

Booker was a teaching fellow at the Department of Education and taught special education at K760, or the Highland Park Community School.

"I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of this young teacher," New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina said in a statement. "My thoughts are with the school community, and we are providing additional support to the school's students and staff during this difficult time."
