City councilman proposes garbage truck app
City Councilman David Greenfield, of Brooklyn, has proposed a smartphone app to help drivers avoid becoming stuck behind garbage trucks on narrow city roads.
Greenfield's legislation would make GPS tracking data of sanitation trucks available to the public.
"It's a clear win-win-win for drivers, sanitation workers and the environment," the councilman said in a statement.
Many drivers support the idea, although critics say it's a waste of tax dollars.
But one Bronx resident News 12 spoke with says the app has a secondary benefit: If you accidentally throw away something valuable, you can track down the truck before it reaches the dump.
