Boerum Hill residents bemoan added travel for package pickup

Some Boerum Hill residents are complaining about the longer trip they have in store to pick up their packages.

Beginning Jan. 17, Boerum Hill residents will have to a different ZIP code to get missed packages when the Times Plaza Post Office relocates across the street on Atlantic Avenue and splits services. Package pickup will be transferred to a Dean Street location in Prospect Heights.

Some residents have complained of spotty service in the past with the United States Postal Service, but now with the news of an additional 12-minute walk in store, many saying they are just going to opt for a different service altogether.

In a statement released to News 12, a USPS representative says the change is actually adding convenience for the customers.

"Package pickup customers will not wait behind what can be lengthy retail transactions, such as a passport application, package mailings, or money orders," the statement reads. "This increases the ability for our window personnel to service transactions quickly and efficiently for our retail customers."
