NYPD surprises Bronx family after Facebook post

The NYPD surprised a Bronx family Friday after a post on News 12 The Bronx's Facebook page.

On Dec. 23, hundreds of NYPD officers took part in a sleigh ride, handing out gifts to families across north Brooklyn.

Evelyn Darko was in the Bronx at home watching the events unfold on social media and casually posted on our News 12's page about how great the event was and how she wished she could have been there.

Little did she know, the Brooklyn officers had not only seen her comment, but contacted News 12 to see how they could help make her wish come true.

News 12 and the officers the Bronx, where Darko and her 14-year-old daughter, Aliahah, were staying. They surprised Aliahah with a shopping spree at Old Navy, which they gratefully accepted.

Inside the store, it was all smiles for the mother and daughter as Aliahah picked out different outfits, trying them on and looking to her newfound friends in blue for approval.

The shopping trip came just in time for Aliahah's 15th birthday this Tuesday.
