P.S. 97 to undergo $100M expansion
Parents, students and staff at P.S. 97 are celebrating plans for a $100 million expansion of the Gravesend school.
It's good news for students who were learning in temporary outdoor trailers due to overcrowding. The expansion allows for 450 new classroom seats.
After the project is complete, the school plans to have the outdoor units removed, and move the staff and students inside of the new space.
The new space includes new classrooms, a cafeteria, gym and an art and music room.
School staff says the additional space is welcome and needed.
While the expansion is still in the design phase, the school expects it to be open in 2021.
