Brownsville brothers defend mom against home intruder

Two young brothers are credited with fending off a man who tried to break in to their family's Brownsville apartment and attack their mother.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. Sunday inside an apartment off Kings Highway East and 98th Street.

Police say the mother opened her door to dust off her broom when the suspect tried pushing his way inside. They say the woman's two young boys, ages 11 and 13, fought off the suspect, who fled empty-handed.

The family was taken to Brookdale Hospital and treated for minor cuts. They have not been identified.

Police describe the suspect as a male in his late teens or early 20s, with dreadlocks and a facial tattoo.
