Police: No charges after fetus found in Canarsie home

The NYPD commissioner says there will be no charges filed following the discovery of the remains of a fetus in the pipes of a Canarsie home.

The discovery happened around 2 p.m. Tuesday at a home near the intersection of East 83rd Street and Flatlands Avenue. There are three apartments inside the home.

News 12 has learned that one of the building's tenants had a miscarriage.

The homeowner says she called a plumber after residents could not flush their toilets or shower. Police say a woman at the multifamily home woke up in the middle of the night Monday to use the bathroom and noticed blood, but didn't think much of it.

Investigators say the woman was about three to four months pregnant. Sources tell News 12 that the woman is undocumented and was afraid to report the miscarriage. A plumber arrived Tuesday afternoon, found the fetus inside the drain and called 911.

NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill says there will not be any charges due to the circumstances.
