John Jay H.S. holds College Awareness Day

Some students at John Jay High School in Park Slope spent Wednesday's history class preparing for the future on College Awareness Day.

Guest speakers included professionals from various industries, college graduates and high school seniors already going through the college application process.

"Now that I've been through the process, and I know how discouraging it is -- I know how overwhelming it is -- I know that these kids can do it," one of the seniors said.

School officials say they want students to head toward graduation prepared for life after high school.
