Police: Officers fatally shoot man wielding screwdriver in Queens

Authorities say a man was fatally shot in a police-involved shooting in Queens.

The NYPD responded to reports of a woman screaming in Springfield Gardens early Saturday morning.

When officers arrived, they say they found a man threatening a woman with a screwdriver. Police ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, but they say he refused.

Police say during an ensuing struggle, two officers fired one round each, striking the man.

He was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect or the officers involved at this time.
