Activists in Bay Ridge march for MLK Day

Activists in Bay Ridge marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a march for the principles they say he stood for.

The march and rally began at the Islamic Society of Bay Ridge and wrapped inside the Salam Arabic Lutheran Church in a symbolic display of unity.

Billed as a march against hate and intolerance, it in several regards turned out to be a march against President-elect Donald Trump, coming just four days before his inauguration.

Their chants reaffirmed support for immigrants and groups they say they feel may be unfairly treated with the new administration, all while invoking the legacy of Dr. King.

News 12 spoke with some others who say the activists cannot cherry-pick the hate and intolerance they stand against, and that their views as Muslim Republicans and Trump supporters should be tolerated as well.
