NYCHA tenants without heat since Christmas

Hundreds of senior citizens living in a NYCHA facility say they have been without heat since Christmas, and that the issue has been an ongoing problem for years.

Tenants at the Vandalia Avenue senior housing facility say they are constantly reaching out to NYCHA to let the agency know about the problem, but have not seen any action taken.

Mildred Carusillo says the last time she spoke with a NYCHA representative, she was told the heat was malfunctioning due to an electrical fire.

"I don't care what anybody says because if there was an electrical fire, then engines would have been here," she says. "The fire department would have been all over the place. It's just one excuse after the other."

A NYCHA spokesperson said in a statement to News 12, "Staff are making repairs to the heating system. We apologize to residents and appreciate their patience while we work to resolve this issue as quickly as possible."
