Police: Driver won’t face charges after woman fatally struck

A driver won't face charges after fatally striking a woman with a tractor-trailer in Brooklyn, police say.

The incident happened Wednesday at the corner of Caton Avenue and St. Paul's Place around 8:30 p.m. in Flatbush.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was hauling cars before he struck a woman who suddenly ran across the street.

Police say they later tracked down the driver of the truck who told officials he did not realize he hit the woman.

Authorities say the woman was not in the crosswalk at the time she was hit by the tractor-trailer.

A witness says that the woman was on her phone and not looking at oncoming traffic when she was struck.

The identity of the woman has not yet been released, but officials believe she is in her 40s.
