Man arrested after Bay Ridge home invasion, assault

Police arrested a man Sunday in connection with a violent home invasion in Bay Ridge that sent a 70-year-old woman to the hospital.



Luis Hernandez, 42, is facing two counts of felony assault and burglary charges after officials say he forced his way into the victim's Ovington Avenue home on Saturday around 10 p.m.



Police say the victim told officers that Hernandez, of Queens, smashed a vase over her head and assaulted her.



News 12 is told that neighbors overheard the struggle and called police.



Police say the victim was badly injured but is recovering at Lutheran Hospital.
