City Council tours after-school program

An after-school program in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens is helping people succeed at no cost to them.

Flatbush Beacon is one of 80 Beacon programs in New York City and provides hundreds of children and adults with free services and activities out of its M.S. 2 location.

City Council members toured Flatbush Beacon Tuesday to see how they could help. They listened to stories from program organizers and enrollees about ways in which extra funding for after-school programs could go a long way.

With the City Council in the midst of 2017 budget planning, Tuesday's visit served as a unique opportunity to visualize where funding is going and how it can better serve both Beacon and the Brooklyn community at large.
