Police: Man beaten to death, person in custody

A 53-year-old Brooklyn man was beaten to death with a hammer in his own home, police say.

They found Omer Fatahelrhman dead Tuesday morning at his East 18th Street apartment.

He had trauma to the head, and sources say a hammer likely caused the damage.

Neighbors say he could have been dead for days.

Friends grew worried after Fatahelrhman failed to show up at work earlier in the week, according to authorities. They went to check up on him and say the roommate told them he was dead. They alerted police, who took a 42-year-old person of interest into custody.

Neighbors the victim and his roommate were related to one another and lived together for more than a decade.
