St. Agatha School in Sunset Park to close

St. Agatha School in Sunset Park will be closing at the end of the year.

According to the diocese, the school can't continue to operate with its current financial challenges, which include a significant rise in students costs and a steady decrease in enrollment since 2010.

Both parents and students told News 12 that they are devastated.

"I don't know what I'm going to do with my daughters," said one parent. "There's no Catholic school around here and the school is so safe."

While diocese officials told News 12 that it is going to provide a $500 grant to each school or academy accepting a St. Agatha student, parents say it's not enough. A petition and GoFundMe page have been created in an attempt to save the school.
