Rare condition causes Remy Ma to miscarry
New York rapper Remy Ma is bringing awareness to ectopic pregnancy, a condition that caused her to miscarry.
"I have stitches in my stomach and no baby," she says.
The rapper, who also stars in VH1's "Love and Hip-Hop," says the condition occurs when an embryo is embedded outside the uterus.
Doctors at Kings County Hospital say it affects roughly two in 100 pregnant women. They say the highest risk is to women with pelvic scarring from cesarean sections, women who smoke, and women who have had already had a previous ectopic pregnancy.
Women who experience bleeding or pain the first few weeks of their pregnancy should see a doctor immediately, according to health experts.
Doctors say an ectopic pregnancy must be removed through surgery or medication.
In Remy Ma's situation, which doctors say is not always the case, the miscarriage left her unable to naturally conceive.
